This summer has been our busiest and most exciting ever. It’s way past time to catch up on the blog, and how better than with a few impressions of our wonderful new resident, Genuine Reward.

It’s true. He does look very much like his 1980 Kentucky Derby-winning mom, Genuine Risk. He arrived in excellent condition. This, and his trust of people, make it clear he has been well cared for. He’s proving to be a bright, inquisitive and kindly stallion. We’re already very much in love with him.

But don’t take my word for it. See him for yourself in this local news spot, filmed and aired yesterday on Lexington’s Channel 27, with our barn manager Tim Wilson and Mixed Pleasure’s very own John Bradley.

For now, Genuine Reward is still in quarantine. We hope you’ll come visit him beginning Aug. 15!

hi Beth, so good to see a blog post! Looks like GR has already had a “show your tattoo” lesson from Special Ring!! Can’t wait to meet him…I’ll miss him this trip since I’m coming next weekend from NC..just a week too early..but hopefully I can meet him next year!

Genuine Reward is doing a lot of flehmen response as he settles in, sorting out the new smells he’s encountering. He’s using heightened sensory glands horses have. He may do less of this “super-smelling” as he becomes familiar with the farm and its residents. So Ring isn’t too worried about being upstaged.

I can hardly wait to meet him, Dude, my late girl’s “brother” Silver Charm (she was by Silver Buck, too), and to see my special favorites Ring, Tinner, and Dinard. Thing is…there aren’t enough hours in the day to spend time with all my old friends at Old Friends!

Looking forward. Any time you’d like to see Tinner, Dinard, or any of the others who aren’t on the front of the farm, let us know when you set up your visit. We’ll do our best to reunite any of our residents with their fans and friends.

I’ve been so looking forward to this post. From all accounts, Genuine Reward will be a handsome and popular addition to the farm. No doubt he’ll relish all his admirers. As always, love the photos.
