Jake 1999-2010

I talk to him when I’m lonesome like; and I’m sure he understands.  When he looks at me so attentively, and gently licks my hands; then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes, but I never say naught thereat.  For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes, but never a friend like that.  ~W. Although we hadn’t seen Jake for a long while, we will still miss him. He was a great dog and a special member of our family. Never forget how patient and loving he was with Cam when he was little. Our hearts go out to you, Val, Greg, and Marley. We are thinking about you….

    Val –

I’m so sorry! I love Boxers as much as I do the horses. You were just finishing up a tour the first time I came to OF. I stayed with Michael & Diane and was waiting at the house for Michael to return from his other obligations. Jake & Marley wandered over to see who the new arrival was as you were wrapping up with your group. I told them I was happy to see them (and be drooled upon) as a visit to OF wouldn’t have been complete without meeting the ‘blog dogs’. Thanks for letting us all get to know them by including stories about them in the weekly report. As animal lovers, I’m sure everyone who is in some way associated with OF feels your loss.

Val, I am so sorry that you lost your great old man. I could always see how much you loved him when you brought him with you on Sundays. What a kind, gentle, and wise old soul he was. You gave him the kind of life every dog should be fortunate enough to have.

Sorry to hear about Jake, Val.
The only time they hurt us is when they die. The hurt lingers forever but the memories bring the smiles back again.
RIP dear Jake. You certainly will be with some special friends of our’s who will great you with kindness.

Val, so sorry to hear about your Jake. This is the season for giving. You gave him the best gift. The only gift that really matters, Love.

    Hi Val-

Sorry about your loss. Jake was a great dog.

  10. Viv from Ivytree

We will always remember you, dear and loyal Jake, blessed among companions. Old Friends was lucky to have you as such a wonderful ambassador. I know you meant the world to your people, Val and Greg and your sister, Marley. Give Appy a big old slobbery Christmas kiss for me. May Heaven be full of Busy Bones and puppy treats for all good dogs like you. Your friend, Viv

Thank you everyone–Roberta, Viv, Fred, my sister Karen, Tim, everyone who has emailed me or who has commented on Jake. Your kindness in taking a moment to console us has meant a great deal to Greg and I both. And if Marley could read, she’d be honored, too.

Happy Holidays to you all, and I hope to see all of you soon.

Val – From one who tremendously enjoys your writings of Old Friends, sending my sorrow at your loss. Jake will stay with you in your heart. May all beings know that love and kindness. The quote was very well-said.

My fiancé Jeff and I were the only folks on a tour with you a month back or so. I could tell how much love you had for those dogs, and I enjoyed their company immensely!
    God Bless,

  14. I’m SO sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. I never got to meet him, but he seems like he was a wonderful guy. Hugs and comfort to you all. He’s still there in spirit. 🙂

Val, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I think I got to meet Jake and he was truly a special guy… he’ll be meeting you over the Rainbow Bridge, along with a lot of horses you have known at Old Friends.
    Take care, Tracie
